We are looking for tutors for 2024-5 teacher up-skilling

What is the up-skilling programme going to cover?

This year the scope will be flexible while building on and evolving from prior programmes. In addition to NQ Computing Science, it may include Computing Science learning experiences from the start of the BGE in Early Years through Primary and S1-3, for example across primary-secondary transition. To enable a flexible programme for tutors and teachers in terms of content options and duration, STACS will provisionally establish 15-20 paid tutor posts which feature a number of core hours with options to extend the programme duration.

Why be a tutor?

We need tutors with energy and experience of teaching Computing Science including BGE (Early Years, Primary or Secondary), N5 and/or Higher and enthusiasm for any or all of the topics!

Being a tutor is a great team experience and much appreciated by the teachers who attend the up-skilling. Here are some feedback comments from those who participated in the previous Advanced Higher up-skilling programme.

  • Great quality online learning - superb tutors

  • Friendly & Knowledgeable presenters

  • Liked being online, as you made us very welcome

  • The support from the tutors has been amazing

We would like to offer the same kind of experience to teachers again and we can do this with your help! In the end we want all our students to benefit in their classroom learning.

How can all that be covered?

The programme will balance evidenced up-skilling requirements and teacher needs with the practical realities of tutor and teacher priorities in terms of time and topics of professional interest. STACS proposes a flexible programme co-produced with tutors where:

  • STACS identifies a set of programme characteristics and a list of provisional up-skilling development areas. (See appendix).

  • Tutors collaborate in small teams (2 or more people) to draft a design for a bespoke programme they wish to deliver together.

  • Tutor teams discuss their draft programme with the STACS core team and finalise agreed programmes.

  • Programmes are published and teachers are invited to participate in one or more of the programmes.

  • STACS will work with tutors to co-develop a programme structure that fulfils the programme characteristics and implements up-skilling in one of the development areas. These are described in the appendix.

You will find a more detailed description of the programme proposal and tutor responsibilities and an appendix with programme characteristics and areas for development here.
