SQL Online Game

SQL Police Department is an online game where you solve crimes using SQL.

This does come with a cost but you will get the 10 or so cases free. It takes around 1 - 2 hours depending on ability. To sign up for more cases it is $20 and licenses usually last 6 months.

A good website for critical thinking and applying knowledge pupils have learnt as opposed to a site for pupils to learn SQL. You click the commands to enter them, it provides detailed guides explaining commands if a pupil needs help. A variety of commands featured such as SELECT, FROM, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, DISTINCT, LIMIT etc.

We have found this to be a nice platform to use for a cover lesson, homework, extension task for Higher pupils. Although, DISTINCT and LIMIT aren’t part of the SQA the cases with DISTINCT and LIMIT aren’t too difficult so and are well explained in the guide so should be able to cope. N5 pupils who are confident in their SQL skills should also manage.
