Quick Read: Using semantic waves to improve explanations and learning activities in computing

Throughout computing, and in particular programming, there are many technical terms with precise technical meanings. This can frame expert knowledge as inaccessible to novice learners.

However, by following a semantic wave structure, a novice learner will unpack the meanings of these technical terms and abstract contexts, in order to simplify them. This simpler language, and concrete contexts, can promote securing knowledge of the concept before progressing to the next. It is crucial however, to ensure that these simpler meanings are then linked back to the abstract concepts and associated technical language.
